Summer Games At Penn State

Special Olympics Pennsylvania hosted its annual summer games at Penn State University. It was a three-day event from June 5 to June 7th, 2025. The athletes participated in competitions in various fields and arenas. There were also refreshments and special activities for the guests, as well as the athletes and coaches. The Special Olympics Pennsylvania Summer Games were one of the most epic events in history.

The Opening Ceremony
The Special Olympics Pennsylvania summer games opening ceremony took place at the Melder Field. The Melder field is where the Penn State Nittany Lions baseball team plays. At the opening ceremony, the hosts and speakers made their speeches to all the guests, including the athletes and the coaches. There was also fun, games, and music played at the opening ceremony. Later on, law enforcement bikers and runners arrived at the field with the torch and eventually lit the cauldron to start the Special Olympics PA Summer Games.

Olympic Village
The Olympic Village is a designated area for Special Olympics Pennsylvania events. It's where athletes, coaches, and even other guests can receive refreshments and participate in fun activities. For the Summer Games, it was located in an open park around the corner from the Intramural Building, where Special Olympics Basketball was taking place.

The Rebels and The Warriors
The Philadelphia Rebels (Yellow) and the Philadelphia Warriors (Red) are both teams that represent Philadelphia County. The Rebels are the A-Team, the Warriors are the B-Team, and they are unified as one. They participated in their basketball games inside the Intramural Building on different courts.

A Special Thanks To Larkin Richards
On June 7, 2025, Larkin Richards had her last day in Special Olympics Pennsylvania as their social media ambassador group manager. Richards has spent years being part of the SOPA community, working with the SOPA social media ambassadors by scheduling meetings about content creating. Larkin has a new job opportunity with another organization outside of SOPA. During her last day of SOPA in Penn State, SOPA athlete, Social Media Ambassador, and Inthusee's founder and CEO, Abdul Muhammad, offered Larkin the opportunity to join Inthusee's Feature Figures program, and she accepted. Larkin will be honored and remembered by friends and colleagues from SOPA, and now she can be part of the Inthusee community.

The Champions
The Philadelphia Rebels won first place in basketball. The games took place in the Intramural Building at Penn State. The Rebels won against each team throughout the weekend. After the Rebels played their last game on the last day, they received their gold medals at Olympic Village. With the Rebels and Warriors basketball season ended, they're going to focus on their next season in Flag Football for Special Olympics.
